Lynford Stag is another walk within the beautiful area that is Thetford Forest. Located just outside the village on Mundford on the road between Thetford and Kings Lynn. Access is easy just off the main road, although it could be better sign posted as it is a 60mph road and you are on top of it before you know it.
There are two marked trails at the site – the blue trail and the green trail. Both of these are around 1.75 miles long. You can join the two together if fancy a longer walk.
There is also a wellbeing trail at Lynford, which is a 3 mile walk that links up the Stag and the nearby Lynford Arboretum. This walk has a combination of hard gravel surfaces, and naturally surfaced trails that lead you through the peaceful canopy of the trees. Information panels are placed strategically along the trail and they encourage you to stop, notice, and connect with the forest environment surrounding you in all it’s glory.
Lynford Stag is not a massively developed site like some country parks and similar that we feature. It’s just a car park that provides an access point to beautiful walks in the forest.
Catering
No catering at the site unfortunately, although there is sometimes an ice cream van in the car park in summer. A picnic area is provided though should you wish to bring your own along.
Failing that the village of Mundford just a couple of miles away has a traditional country pub dating back to approx 1650 called The Crown. With real ales on offer, the food here is very good and is popular with locals and walkers alike. During the winter months an open fire will welcome you into the bar area.
